What is the week of the Young Child?
The Week of the Young Child, was begun by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC), an organization that focuses on providing systems and practices that promote the developmental growth of young children. The Week of the Young Child (WOYC), April 10-16 offers a platform for shining a spotlight on the importance of early childhood in a child’s development. Best practices for the youngest learners begin before their birth. Regular prenatal checkups, is a launch-pad for a child to enter the world able to thrive, with the potential to grow physically and intellectually into a productive member of society. Literacy can be a portal to countless adventures to anywhere at any time. This “door to adventure” sets the tone for the week. “Doors to Adventure” will be opened as volunteers branch out at various sites to read to preschool children in childcare centers and childcare homes in community locations.
